October in the Garrotxa

mushrooms, beech woods and volcanoes

A masia with five rooms and a local breakfast, between Olot and the Fageda. This is what is on these days.

How the paths are today

Dry through the Fageda, with plenty of leaves on the ground; muddy on the Croscat stretch after Thursday's rain. Mist until ten in the morning, and it's already 4 °C before dawn.

26 October to 13 November

This month in the Garrotxa

  1. Mon26Oct
Wicker basket full of seasonal mushrooms.

    Market Monday, 8:00 to 13:30

    Monday market in Olot

Stalls of vegetables, the day's mushrooms and cured sausages all through the centre of Olot. We go there to shop for breakfast: if you like, we'll take you at 9.

  2. Wed28Oct
Path between beech trees with yellow autumn leaves in the Fageda d'en Jordà.

Walk All week, best first thing in the morning

The Fageda d'en Jordà at its best

The beeches are somewhere between yellow and copper. You leave from our door and in twenty minutes you're inside the beech wood; back via the Santa Margarida volcano. We'll give you the track and a sandwich.

  3. Sat31Oct
Freshly roasted chestnuts on a tray.

At the masia Saturday from 19:00

    Castanyada at the masia

Chestnuts roasted on the fire, sweet potatoes and panellets, the Catalan almond sweets, for everyone staying with us. No booking and no charge.

  4. Sun1Nov
Autumn mushrooms among the fallen leaves of the wood.

    Fair Sunday, all day

The village autumn fair (Fira de tardor)

The village autumn fair, a ten-minute walk away: livestock, cheeses, ratafia and a mushroom competition. You can leave your bike in our garage.

  5. Mon2Nov
The forest-covered cone of the Croscat volcano behind a green field.

    Market Monday morning

Olot market and the Croscat volcano

After the market: the Croscat is a twenty-minute walk from the masia. It's the youngest volcano on the peninsula, and the cut of the old quarry lets you see inside it.

  6. Mon9–12Nov
    Stone front of the masia.

Closed Monday 9 to Thursday 12

    Closed for a rest

The masia is closed for these four days. We'll be back on Friday 13 with the fires lit.
