What you always ask us
The questions almost every family has before their first trip, and how to get to the jetty without going round in circles in Riaño.
Frequently asked questions
Not here? Ask us on WhatsApp; we reply from the jetty.
Ask on WhatsAppDo I need to be able to swim?
For hire and the guided route, yes: just enough to stay afloat with the buoyancy aid on. For kayaking with children you don't, because the child always goes with an adult and the instructor is right there. If someone can't swim, tell us when you book and we'll find the best option.
What if it rains?
In light rain we paddle just the same, and the reservoir looks beautiful with cloud on the peaks. What we don't do is go out in a storm or strong wind: in that case we let you know on WhatsApp that morning and move the day or cancel free of charge.
Can I bring the dog?
For hire, yes, in a double kayak and if the dog is calm on the water. We have buoyancy aids for dogs up to 30 kilos. On the guided route and the trips with children, it's better for them to stay on dry land.
How old do you have to be?
From 5 for kayaking with children, from 8 in a double kayak with an adult, from 10 for paddleboarding and from 12 for the guided route. Under 18s come with their father, their mother or an adult who takes responsibility.
Is there somewhere to get changed?
Yes, a hut with two changing rooms and a cold shower next to the jetty. There are small lockers for keys and wallets.
Do I need to book?
In July, August and on sunny weekends, yes, at least a day ahead. The rest of the year, if you turn up without booking and there are kayaks free, you go out straight away. Call or message us on WhatsApp.
How warm is the water?
Cold, nearly always: the reservoir collects water from the Picos de Europa. In August it reaches about 20 degrees; in May and October it doesn't go above 14, which is why we give you a wetsuit for paddleboarding in those months.

Where to park
- Free car park next to the jetty, for about 40 cars. In August it fills up before 11:00.
- If it's full, there's another at the entrance to Riaño, five minutes' walk along the lakeside path.
- Vans and motorhomes park in the village motorhome area, not at the jetty.
