Lagartija y Compañía

A vet for exotic animals only

Rabbits, ferrets, birds, reptiles and small rodents, in Málaga. No dogs or cats in the waiting room.

The first thing people ask us

Do you see my animal?

We only see exotic animals: there are no dogs or cats in the waiting room, and for a rabbit or a cockatiel that changes the whole visit. If your animal is not on the list, just ask.

Tip of the month

Your gecko's shed, without pulling at the skin

If your leopard gecko has turned pale and is barely eating, it is not ill: it is about to shed. It usually finishes on its own in a day or two.

Put a humid hide in the vivarium: a plastic tub with a hole and damp moss or kitchen paper inside. It rubs itself there and the skin comes off in one piece. It will eat it, and that is normal too.

In autumn, homes in Málaga get cold at night and the humidity drops. If a shed gets stuck halfway, that is nearly always why. Check the warm end is still at 30-32 °C.

Never pull off dry skin with your fingers: it takes scales with it and, on the toes and the tip of the tail, it can cut off the circulation.

If there is still skin left on the toes, tail or eyes after three days, book an appointment: we will remove it carefully at the practice.
